It is strongly recommended that you as Hanken researchers tag your registrations in Hanken's research database Haris using one or more of the 17 SDGs as keywords, if your publication, project or activity falls in these fields of research. You can tag both your new and past research outputs, activities, and projects with the SDGs keywords in Haris. This means that you can add these keywords to your Haris entries also retroactively if you have not added them earlier. These keywords are used for internal and external reporting. Only with the SDG-tagging can it be possible to extract data and reports from Haris on the research done at Hanken in these areas. Hanken 2030 Sub-strategies for research states that all researchers are expected to link their research projects and outputs to the SDGs.
While the 17 SDGs have increasingly been endorsed and adopted by both nations, organizations, and individuals around the world, in the scientific community, there are also more and more efforts and methodologies designed to frame research around the SDGs. Universities as a centre of knowledge dissemination have a critical role to play in achieving the SDGs. Aligning its research to the SDGs ensures a university can work together with other organisations and institutions to confront global sustainability challenges.
On an individual researcher level, showing how your research aligns with the SDGs can make it more visible and accessible to the international community, potentially contributing to research collaborations both within Hanken and outside of Hanken.
Hanken has committed to mainstreaming and integrating SDGs across research, education, and partnerships as part of its commitment to the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), of which Hanken has been a signatory since 2008. Social responsibility and Sustainability at Hanken is a core pillar of Hanken's Strategy 2030.
SDG-tagging in Haris has been used in both internal and external reporting at Hanken. For example, publications tagged with the SDGs in Haris have been used as a key indicator in Hanken Short-term Strategic Action Plan. An example of external reports is that publications and projects tagged with the SDGs in Haris have provided a basis for Hanken’s report for the ENGAGE.EU engagement. ENGAGE.EU’s partner universities have used the SGDs to map their own research outputs, research projects, and research centres in order to identify the common research-related societal change drivers and societal challenges.
In Haris public portal, readers can search for and filter Hanken's research outputs by clicking on any of the 17 SDGs. Please see the screenshot below:
The SDG tagging thus enables smooth and accurate collection of information on the research being conducted at Hanken that contributes to achieving the SDGs, as well as easy accessibility of information internally and externally, potentially contributing to disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration within the scientific community and in the wider social circle.
It is very easy to add SDGs keywords in Haris for your research merits. In Haris’s templates for publications, activities, and projects, there is a button “Add Sustainable Development Goals.” Click the button and a new window will pop up to enable you to choose one or more of the 17 goals.
Please note that it is only you as a Hanken-affiliated researcher who can and shall assess and mark your research if it falls within any of these fields of the SDGs. The library does not register these keywords when validating your entries in Haris.
More information about how to register your publications, activities and projects is in the LibGuide on Haris. If you have any question concerning Haris registration and tagging in Haris, contact haris@hanken.fi.
