Kielitoimiston sanakirja A dictionary of standard Finnish, has been compiled at the Institute for the Languages of Finland. It is based on comprehensive and continuously updated lexical resources of contemporary Finnish.
MOT Dictionaries MOT Sanakirjat® contains Kielikone’s most popular general language and specialist dictionaries from Finnish into English, Swedish, German, French, and a large selection of other languages.

Instructions for getting started using MOT Dictionaries

Go to www.sanakirja.fi/korkeakouluille
Choose "Svenska handelshögskolan" under Organization. Enter your Hanken e-mail address and click “Get a login link”
You will receive a confirmation e-mail. Click on the link "Get MOT Kielipalvelu"
Finish by choosing a password for the service. With the password you can then later log in to the service directly through www.sanakirja.fi

Language Courses

Language course in Finnish as audio books in the Biblio platform. You need a library card and PIN-code to use the service. Please ask the library staff if you need help.

Finnish course basic The language courses are based on the method Listen - Repeat - Learn. This course is bilingual which means that every phrase you hear is first spoken in English and then repeated slowly in Finnish allowing you to easily obtain the correct pronunciation. A short pause after each phrase allows you to practise saying the phrase yourself, the phrase is then repeated at a normal rate of speech. We concentrate on words and phrases you can immediately use upon arrival in a foreign country. This course consists of 37 audio chapters, two text booklets and a combined mini-grammar and study guide in PDF-format in which the most important basic rules of Finnish grammar are presented.
Finnish course Listen: Hear a phrase first in English and then twice in Finnish. Repeat: Practice at your own pace and learn the pronunciation. Learn: Within a few exercises you will be able to start using your new language. This is a bilingual (english to finnish) downloadable course in Finnish. It contains of 3 hours MP3 -file downloaded recorded material and 2 course booklets in PDF-format. The textbooks follow the chapters of the recording.
