Article processing charge (APC)
An article processing charge (APC) is charged to an author to make his/her publication available open access in a license based journal, so-called hybrid open access. APCs are often charged also in gold open access journals.
Discounts on APCs
In the year of 2024, Hanken researchers are eligible to discounts on APCs in journals published by Elsevier (100% discount, no APC), Emerald (no APC with a voucher), Sage (100% discount, no APC), Springer Nature (100% discount, no APC) and Wiley (100% discount, no APC). The discounts are made possible by the agreements signed by the FinELib consortium with the publishers.
Hanken researchers can publish their articles as (hybrid) open access to a discounted fee, provided that the Hanken affiliated researcher acts as the corresponding author and that Hanken affiliation is officially stated in the publication. The process of obtaining a discount on APC is different with each publisher. It is extremely important to fill in the publication forms correctly, since publishers will not make any APC refunds retrospectively.
As the corresponding author, please remember to ensure possible publishing fees. Hanken has also allocated a central fund for open access publication fees. Read more about the criteria of the fund allocation.
